You gotta love the way low income weasel journalists try to spice up a prosaic story!
"Const. Jacqueline Chaput said the man refused to drop the weapon, leaving her no choice but to use deadly force." Sure, it's not like she and her partner had stun guns, bats, the option to shoot the nutcase in the leg first, etc.
